NotesPercival Abrahams was born on 22 December 1890, the son of Thomas Frederick Abrahams (Flatman) and Sarah Ann, nee Ellison. He is listed in the census for 1891 (Source Citation: Class: RG12; Piece: 2923; Folio: 75; Page: 16; GSU Roll: 6098033.) He never married. The family name, in this census, is given as Abrams.

His Father, Thomas Frederick, was a flatman (sailor on flats, which were barge-type vessels), born 1854, died 1894. Percy was admitted to Mrs. Birt's Sheltering Home in 1896, and sailed on the Numidian with his sisters, Elizabeth (Bessie) and Amy, arriving at Halifax, Nova Scotia, on 4 March 1897.

On January 31, 1900, Percy Abrahams wrote, from Stornoway, Quebec, Canada, to his mother (Sarah Ann Abrahams, nee Ellison), who resided at "1 Court, 1 House Harobe Street, Beaumont Street" (Liverpool).

In 1901, his mother Sarah was listed as a widow, residing in Toxteth Park with 3 of her children. Her death was registered in 1914 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool.

On March 6, 1916, at Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, Percival Abrahams, 25, joined the Canadian Armed Forces (Service Number: 748749; Force: Army; Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment); 16th Battalion). He declared that he was born in Liverpool, England; that he was a trainman; that he was single; that his birthdate was December 22, 1890; and that he had no next of kin. (This document is a copy; the original document, on file in Ottawa, has been amended to show his mother, Mrs. S. Abraham, as his next of kin.) He is described as 5 foot 8-1/2 inches in height; fresh complexion; blue eyes; dark brown hair. He is shown as a Methodist by faith.

On August 8, 1918, Private Percival Abrahams died at the Battle of Hangard Wood. At the end of March 1918, Hangard was at the junction of the French and Commonwealth forces defending Amiens. From 4 to 25 April, the village and Hangard Wood were the scene of incessant fighting, in which the line was held and the 18th Division were particularly heavily engaged. On 8 August, the village was cleared by the 1st and 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles. Percival is buried at HANGARD COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, Somme,France (Grave Reference: I. A. II).
